We welcome Rebecca Carter, our Spring Semester Marketing Intern
Rebecca is an energetic junior at Clemson who hails from Orlando, FL. She is majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Business Administration. Rebecca is totally engaged in campus life and is involved in club tennis and intramurals. Her growing resumé includes ETV Production Studio Endowment Intern, Sports Writer for the Tiger, and Financial Assistant at the Sports Medicine Institute.
Working with a ministry organization will not be a new experience for Rebecca. We asked her about why she wanted to be involved with ‘The Bridge’ and she told us,
“I founded the FCA at my high school in Florida, and went on a mission trip with FCA to New Orleans in 2008 during my spring break. We helped restructure the homes that had been destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. I’ve also led several service projects for Student Government like ‘help the homeless” in Orlando.”
Rebecca will be helping us promote our events on campus and also edits Main Street Deli & Coffeehouse’s weekly newsletter. Welcome to the Bridge. Rebecca.

The Best Way to End a Wintry Weekend in Clemson
Take eight kinds of delicious chili, piles of grilled cheese sandwiches, various yummy cookies and cakes. Mix with forty two students at The Bridge, stir in another thirty or so folks from Greenville First Nazarene, and viola!, you have the makings of the best way to end a wintry weekend in Clemson.
Pastor Chuck and his Men’s discipleship group bought and prepared all the food, then came with their families to set-up, serve, and clean up. It was so good to have them join us as we enjoyed the fellowship that makes Sunday Night Suppers at The Bridge so special.
We serve a free home-style meal to area students at 7 PM each Sunday evening during the semester. Why? Because Jesus loves students and so do we. The Bridge is a ministry of the Church of the Nazarene. We meet for worship at Main Street Deli & Coffeehouse in Central on Sundays at 10:30 am. All are welcome.

Sarah and Brian’s Wedding – Our First Big Catering Job.
We were all really nervous as the day of the ‘Jazz Brunch’ drew near: Would the shrimp in bacon turn out ok? Would there be enough food? Could we get it all ready on time and serve it hot? After all, you only get one shot at having an enjoyable wedding – mess this up and that’s it! And we really wanted Sarah and Brian’s day to be really special. They have become good friends of Main Street Deli and we are really cared about their big day.
In the end we had nothing to be nervous about. Mary’s intricate planning, Ken’s skill at keeping loads of food hot (learned on Clemson gamedays at Chick-fil-A), and our team working smoothly together at the wedding venue and back at the deli , resulted in 140 happy well-fed wedding guests making a lasting memory of a wonderful start to married life for the Mudders.
Here’s the yummy menu:
- Meatballs in BBQ sauce (Not just any sauce folks, but Mary’s delicious Dr Pepper Sauce)
- Main Street Seasoned Potatoes
- Mini Quiche (with a selection of unique gluten-free, dairy-free quiches)
- Shrimp wrapped in bacon
- Fruit Salad with home-made granola, and cherry-vanilla yogurt
- Bagels and breads
- Coffee (Ethiopian Medium blend)
- A selection of muffins

Main Street Deli & Coffeehouse is Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year for 2009.
The announcement was made at the annual Chamber Spring Fling Banquet. The Clemson Area Chamber and the Central Area Business Council have been a great resource for the business end of our ministry over the past year.
Yaay….. Aargh!
Yaay….. Aargh! Ever had a situation where the enjoyment of the good news was sobered with a dash of ice-cold water? We were rejoicing at the success at obtaining our Property Tax exemption from the State of South Carolina, when we got the news that the exemption only takes effect from January 2009 and we are still liable for our 2008 property taxes. So, we need to pay $2300 by the end of November to avoid our building being put on auction.
Update on November 23, 2009
Today we took a road tip to the tax office in Pickens to pay our outstanding Property Tax bill. The staff said they had never seen anyone so eager to pay their taxes before.
Fall Semester off to a Good Start.
Fall Semester off to a Good Start. We started the semester with our Smoothie Giveaways at Clemson and SWU’s Orientations. It was good to meet new students and see returning students we had missed during the summer. Our Sunday Night suppers have been a blast with up to fifty students spending the evening at our ministry center.
Sunday Morning Worship Gathering Grows During the Summer.
Sunday Morning Worship Gathering Grows During the Summer. What a blessing is has been to see the great group of people God is sending to be part of our growing community. During our first summer (‘08), our Sunday morning’s sometimes consisted of Mary & Ken meeting together
. I am please to tell you that we were never alone on Sundays this summer, and we had up to twelve people attending at times. But something the numbers could never illustrate is the rich diversity of people that have become a part of the Bridge community.
